Swivel snaps

Swivel snaps are a combination of a swivel and a clip (snap) in one piece of terminal tackle. They are used to both reduce line twist and allow anglers to quickly change lures, rigs, or sinkers without cutting and retying knots.

In fishing, swivel snaps are commonly used when:

Changing lures frequently while targeting species like Kahawai

Swapping metal jigs or hard-body lures for Kingfish

Attaching and removing ledger rigs in surfcasting

They’re convenient and save time, especially during active fishing. However, for very large or wary fish such as big Snapper, some anglers prefer tying direct to the leader for maximum strength and a more natural presentation.
